The Part Where Chemo Kicks My Ass

So my treatment was Thursday.  I felt great through the weekend.  Then came Monday.  It hit me like a ton of bricks, mostly the nausea.  I half expected this to happen since I had to stop taking one of the nausea drugs after it made my face contort into The Joker on Saturday (who knew facial spasms was a drug side effect!).  I could barely get up off the recliner.  Luckily, Nicky just played by himself all day and was a perfect little angel.   The nurse practitioner from my oncologists office called in another drug (Ativian-to help amplify the effects of the Zofran), and she said to come in for some IV fluids and drugs if that doesn't work.  Nick picked it up for me that night, and Tuesday morning I was feeling a little better.  Definitely still nauseous, but much better than Monday.  We had also planned ahead and had a babysitter for Nicky that morning, so I just rested up.  Then by Tuesday night, I was in the dumps again.  I felt like I had the flu.  I was achy from the Neulasta shot (the one that helps stimulate your bone marrow to make more white blood cells).  And that combined with the nausea and fatigue were not pleasant.

Today was my regular check up for them to check how hard the chemo hit my white blood cells.  I was supposed to go at 3:30, but I had a babysitter for the morning again.  I called and moved it up so I could get the IV goodness.  It turns out my white blood cells are at ZERO!  I have no immune system right now!  I have to avoid crowded places and I can't eat raw fruits and veggies unless they are peeled.  And, no sushi till I am done with chemo.  Boo!  The Neulasta shot should start kicking in over the next few days, so hopefully my counts start increasing soon.

At least the fluids seem to be working for now.  I hope it lasts...
