We stopped in Islamorada to have lunch at Lorelei. I had stayed at the Cheeca Lodge just across the street about a year ago during a girls' weekend, and we had had eaten dinner there. It's a toes in the sand type place and they had a guy singing with his guitar who was awesome. We scarfed down some delicious seafood as we got to look out at this:
(we packed light, so I only had my iphone and point & shoot camera...)
We stayed at the Quality Inn, which certainly wasn't the Ritz, but it was free and did the job. They had free shuttles to everywhere we wanted to go. After we checked in, we headed out to Duval Street to walk around. Nick asked if I wanted to have a romantic dinner. I looked at him with a funny face and said that all I wanted was to find an open air dive with delicious fried oysters! Then he said that's why he loves me! So we had dinner at Half Shell Raw Bar. And the oysters were the best I have ever had...melt in my mouth delicious! Then we headed to Mallory Square to watch all the street performers and the sunset. Though I had been to Key West multiple times before, it had always been pit stops on cruises, and you had to be back to the boat by noon. So this was my first time there for the sunset celebration!
Nick was even part of a card trick!
We went back to the hotel and crashed around 9pm that night! Nick had to be up early for the tournament. I headed to the beach to spend some quality time with my Kindle under an umbrella. Somehow, I still managed to get a little sunburn!
Then, it was sadly time to head back home. I decided I couldn't leave the keys without trying the chocolate covered frozen key lime pie on a stick. So we hunted down every little souvenir shop on the way home until we found it. DELISH!
